Summer 2023

Battle Families,

Well, here we are again.  Since my last “summer letter to families,” it seems an eternity has passed.  Many reached out in continued support and I appreciate it.  Many reached out with concerns and I hope we did our best to make you feel heard, valued, and safe.  It has gone so quickly, and we all know that August will be here before we know it.  We look forward to an amazing 2023-2024 school year. Next year is going to be one of the best we have ever had!  Below you will find a list of fun and easy activities your child can do at home this summer.

  • Write a letter to a family member (or ME!  I’ll write back!)
  • Follow a recipe to bake a cake
  • Categorize items as you clean
  • Plant a garden, pull some weeds
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Tally all of the windows in your house
  • Read books!  Everyday!  Discuss characters, setting, problem, and solution.  Read to them; let them read to you
  • Count by 5s and 10s starting at random numbers
  • Practice telling time
  • Learn how to tie shoes
  • Make a map of your house
  • Chart the weather for each day on a simple bar graph
  • LIMIT SCREEN TIME
  • Take a nature walk
  • Practice days of the week and/or months of the year
  • Learn your address and parents’ phone number

Some dates to add to your calendar:

  • Friday, August 4th, 8-12pm.  Stop by to meet your teacher and kindergarten kickoff (get your phase-in date(s), and submit final documents for registration.
  • Wednesday, August 9th - Students start (kindergarten begins phase-in)
  • Friday, August 11th - No School - Teacher Planning
  • Tuesday, August 22nd, 5-6pm - Kindergarten - Second Grade Open House
  • Thursday, August 24th, 5-6pm - Third - Fifth Grade Open House
  • I will send you a full list of events for the fall semester during the first weeks of school

Make memories and take time to relax.  August will be here soon and we will be back at it.  Again, thanks for a great year.  Here’s to many more.

Gratefully Leading,

Mr. G
