Jennifer Whalen, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Jennifer Whalen, Assistant Principal (p) 498-6860 (f) 498-1485

Greetings Battle Community,

It is with excitement and gratitude that I write this letter of introduction as your newly appointed Assistant Principal. I am looking forward to assisting Mr. Goins in supporting staff, students, and families in efforts to continue the great work for which Battle Academy is known.

I graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee with a degree in elementary education. Upon graduation, I moved back to my hometown in the Baltimore, Maryland area to pursue a classroom teaching position and to marry my hometown sweetheart. I started my career at the elementary level and taught primary grades for several years. During that time, I discovered a passion for working with students with disabilities, which pushed me to seek my exceptional education endorsement. Soon after, I transitioned to working in Baltimore City Public Schools as a secondary inclusion co-teacher.

While I loved my time working in Baltimore City, I knew my long-term goal was to return to Tennessee to lay down roots with my family as I had fallen in love with Chattanooga. My husband Johnny and I have two children, Brynn (6) and Brooks (3), and we both agree that Chattanooga is the perfect community for us to raise our children in. I served as an exceptional education teacher at OKMS and RBMS before deciding to pursue my master’s degree in educational leadership with administrative licensure from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. In 2018, I transitioned to the role of Behavior Specialist for the Opportunity Zone and have served in many capacities including the district behavior team, the Opportunity Zone leadership team, and the district SEL team. During my years as an educator I have learned that it takes a supportive community to best meet the needs of our students, and when we all work together our students achieve great things!

I have been given so many incredible opportunities for learning and growth during my professional journey, and I am eager to bring those varied experiences with me to Battle Academy as we work together to cultivate lifelong learners. I look forward to getting to know each of you this school year and to become a part of the Battle Academy family.

Warm regards,

Jennifer Whalen
