Greetings, Battle Academy families!
I hope this letter finds each of you well. My name is Dr. Ranita Scruggs, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the new assistant principal of Battle Academy! It is a privilege to join such a dedicated and vibrant community, and I am eager to begin our journey together. I am passionate about working to continuously improve education for all students and am excited to serve the students, faculty, staff, and families of Battle Academy. It excites me to think about all the great things we will achieve this school year!
I bring 17 years of educator experience in the Hamilton County School system in which I have worked in many capacities. I began my teaching career as a classroom teacher at Hardy Elementary School. While at Hardy, I served as a Kindergarten teacher for 7 years, a first-grade teacher for 4 years, and the kindergarten through fifth-grade Reading Specialist and Response to Intervention Coordinator for 4 years. After spending 14 years at Hardy Elementary School, I moved to East Brainerd Elementary School to serve as a Teacher on Special Assignment for grades 3-5. Most recently, I served as the assistant principal at Ooltewah Elementary for the past two years.
As a continuous learner, I have immersed myself in many opportunities to grow myself as an educator, professional, and leader. In addition to actively working and serving in the school communities I have had the privilege to be a part of, I continued to foster a passion for professional growth by learning in many professional cohorts at the local and state levels. These professional learning experiences include a PEF Leadership Fellow with Hamilton County, a Butterfield Fellow with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a SCORE (State Collaboration on Reforming Education) Fellow with the State of Tennessee, and a member of the inaugural cohort of the Hamilton County Aspiring Assistant Principal LEAD program.
As we embark on this new school year, I am excited to work collaboratively with families, teachers, and the wider community to ensure that our students achieve their fullest potential. I believe open communication and strong partnerships between home and school are essential to our student's success. I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you and your families. Please feel free to reach out anytime at scruggs[email protected]rg if you have any questions, concerns, or simply just want to say hello.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your child. Here's to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and achievement.
Best regards,
Dr. Ranita Scruggs
